Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “önemsiz sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine ilişkilanmasıyla oluşan kısa polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino asit lafıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit alt birimi barındırır). Taban üstelik peptitlerin kısa, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino asit, öbür amino asite ruzuşeb, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle ilişkilanır. Polipeptid bünyesına merhametsizlan amino asitlerin her biri bünyeya peptid ilişkilarıyla ilişkilanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir kez çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilinen en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine merhametsizlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, muaf amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin öbür ucundaki muaf α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıya C ucu adı verilir.
